Which reminds me… when I went with my driver to his other job at the department of irrigation, there was one man with darker complexion than the rest. Everyone would make fun of him constantly, calling him a Gorilla, joking that he was from Sudan, a kidnapper, etc. I was repeatedly told condescending things like “he may be dark but he’s actually really smart.” It was probably the most explicit shadeism I’ve ever seen — I’ve heard some people insist that shadeism in Pakistan isn’t that a serious problem or that it’s limited to the upper-class, but that’s really, really not true.  I can’t even imagine what this guy must have experienced growing up if this how adults treat him.
